The BMW X1, however, is one baby luxo-ute that lives up to the badge on its hood.
What the hell are they on about? It’s a FWD CUV built on a Mini platform. How does that live up to the BMW badge?

Why would I read it? BMW wins a C&D comparison. In other news water is wet and the sun rises in the east.

Is that a Chevy trax with leather in the back?

They could have at least threw in a Q3 and GLA or are those sub medium preluxury sport activity coupe sedans?

Yea I was wondering why they didn’t include those two. First I thought you were right about them being sub medium preluxury SACS, but then I looked deeper into it. It seems that C&D doesn’t even know their own segments.

So have you driven the car? Or are you just looking at the spec sheet?

I just wish our X1 came with those sweet barn doors.

So in other words you’re salty but don’t want to look at something that might change your mind.

Yep. The 2L turbo is great for what it is (I own own), and the 8ZF is probably the best auto transmission I’ve ever driven (I own one). The steering pales in comparison to the old hydraulic units, and FWD based mini chassis feels like a heavy, FWD Mini (shocking). It’s still a good car, but as someone who has owned four BMWs, it laughable to say the car lives up to it’s badge. I guess it lives up to the modern iteration of it’s badge (soccer mom cars). BMW didn’t build this car to be a BMW, they built it as cheaply as possible so they could make a killing off it. Good on them, but let’s not kid ourselves about what this car is. I’d still rather drive it than any other FWD based CUV.

What would change my mind? Car and driver has no credibility. I don’t think the reanimated corpse of Colin Chapman could convince me to give two shits about this class of vehicle anyways. Congrats, you have the best slightly lifted cheap hatchback.
